The 3650 rule; 2 versions of the same person (1 minute read)

This time, I talk about the 3650 rule (I made it up to make a point) and how it can be implemented to give you a glimpse of yourself in 10 years. You may or may not be satisfied with the results. 

The decisions we make every day, whether positive or negative, will directly influence your future self.  Let me explain to you what started as general advice to my patients to quit smoking or reduce sugar consumption but eventually I realised that it can be applied to every single aspect of people’s lives #accident #penicillin (look it up). This is essentially the embodiment of the Inch By Inch Lifestyle.

The small decisions we make don’t have much value in the short term (i.e. day or week or even months). What if these decisions are implemented daily for a year or even 10 years? This becomes interesting.

Let’s look at someone who smokes 20 cigarette’s EVERY day.

Assume 20 cigarettes/day Assume zero cigarettes/day (i.e. quit smoking)

10 years 73,000 cigarettes

2 versions of the same person; the “only” difference is 73,000 cigarettes. What a difference this would make and it happens with cutting down 20 cigarettes EVERY DAY.

Let’s look at someone who jogs for 10 minutes EVERY day.

36,500 (25 full days)

2 versions of the same person; the “only” difference is 36,500 minutes of exercise. What a difference this would make and it happens with only 10 minutes of exercise EVERY DAY.

 

[Insert GOOD or BAD habit] X 3650 =

The GOOD OR BAD difference you will see at 10 years

For example, if the GOOD habit is jogging for 10 minutes EVERY DAY, the rule follows that

Jog 10 minutes X 3650 = 36,500 minutes of jogging over 10 years

 

Fee free to audit your life and analyse the decisions you make, either consciously or subconsciously, and consider whether how these decisions will impact on your 10 year self; just multiply by 3650.
